Hurricanes slipping down Eastern Conference
After starting out the season as well as they had the Stanley Cup season, they Canes have dropped 5 of their last 7 games (including three home losses).
Last night they ran into a hot goaltender, but their energy level was obviously up and down throughout the game (1st - UP, 2nd - DOWN, 3rd -UP). Coincidentally, two Flyers goals happened during a trough in energy output. This transposes the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the Eastern Conference with the Hurricanes moving down.
Carolina is still atop the Southeast Division, but with the Florida win last night, the Panthers are only 4 points behind. The third team in the SE Division, the Altanta Thrashers, are 7-3-0 in their last ten and 7 points behind the Hurricanes.
Now faced with an upcoming 5-game road trip, the team will need to start working harder to get points. It seems the start of the season was too easy and we're in a transition to a new work ethic. We're reasonably healthy now and should focus especially on the Southeast Division games, beginning this Friday against the Caps.
